Spend an afternoon exploring the tide pools and you will be astounded by what you will find! You may encounter sea stars, mollusks, bright sea anemones, crab, octopus, seal and otters that all live in these waters.
There is more to Kachemak Bay than just fishing! The wildlife here is absolutely amazing. The sea stars are radically symmetrical, and their arms are arranged around a central disk. Most species have five arms; however sun stars can have as many as 40 arms or more! Most sea stars are small, usually measuring 12-24 cm across, but there are some species that can be found here that are very large and amazing to view.

Mollusks are an amazingly diverse group of animals that live in a wide variety of environments. They can be found inhabiting trees, gardens, freshwater ponds and streams, estuaries, tidal pools, beaches, the continental shelf, and the deep ocean. Some mollusks are excellent swimmers; others crawl or burrow in mud and sand. Others remain stationary by attaching themselves to rocks, other shells, or plants; or by boring into hard surfaces, such as wood or rocks.

The Kenai Peninsula of Alaska is perhaps the most famous salmon fishing locale in the world. However, salmon fishing is not the only draw of this spectacular area. Along the beaches of the western side of the peninsula, another activity is becoming popular with visitors to the Kenai Peninsula ... razor clamming.

A bit smaller than a dollar bill, and roughly an inch and a half thick, razor clams (often referred to as simply 'razors') are amongst the most highly cherished of all Pacific seafood (even in the areas they come from, razor clam steaks sell for around $9-$12 per pound). The beaches from just north of Homer to the Kasilof River mouth are home to one of only eight major concentrations of razors on the entire Pacific Coast. They can also be found scattered from Pismo Beach, California to the Bering Sea.
